Case Studies:

In eight months, we achieved 60 % reduction in the maintenance cost and 40 % increase in the ROI by virtue of off shoring

Client: The client compiles and delivers IT solutions and consulting services. It helps its customers gain business benefits by utilizing open source technologies and products in a mixed-technology IT environment.

Challenge: Client wanted to partner with an off shoring team to work on multiple turnkey projects on Alfresco/Liferay/Drupal CMS. The challenging part was to work with a geographically distributed team and quickly contribute towards rapidly changing requirements.

Solution: Appinux has been advocating open source solutions to its customers for various business situations and working extensively on Alfresco/Liferay/Drupal/SugarCRM solutions. Algoworks development team contributed towards many projects and helped with Alfresco Installation/Configuration, content model/core services/UI customizations, integration with third party proprietary tools like Liferay/Joomla/Drupal/SugarCRM.
Algoworks has been actively involved in ongoing support for the various projects done.

In eight months, we achieved 60 % reduction in the maintenance cost and 60 % increase in the ROI by virtue of off shoring

Client: The client develops and markets software products to the majority of Universities in Finland and other educational domains in Scandinavian region. The client specializes in development of web based solutions with the use of open sources technologies.

Challenge: The client was handed the responsibility to develop a web based application by one of the reputed universities in Finland (Metropolia University of Applied Sciences) to manage the courses taught in the university. The challenging part was to provide the solution by using Liferay portal which was to be integrated with Alfresco to manage the documents involved. The other important challenge was to migrate the data and documents from existing system to the Alfresco. Apart from these, managing the distribution of work efficiently among onsite team and offshore team and integration of various modules involved in project was also a huge challenge for both Algoworks and the client.

Solution: Metropolia University of Applied Sciences uses a second generation system to manage the courses taught in the university which also handles the collaboration between teachers and students for managing assignments, announcements and discussions. The old system was losing its efficiency and performance with time and increasing amounts of data. There was also requirement for some new features which were difficult to create in existing system.
Algoworks did an extensive analysis of the existing system and obstacles involved and came up with a solution to develop a web application by using Liferay portal and Alfresco.

In eight months, we achieved 60 % increase in the ROI and 40 % increase in turn around time

Client: The client provides a wide range of services from data conversion to knowledge management. The industries they cater include publishing, media and information services, aerospace and defence, IT, manufacturing, and telecommunications.

Challenge: The client wanted to develop a web based portal on a multi tenant architecture, which could be used by its customers as iXBRL conversion service to convert business and financial documents of its customers into iXBRL format. There were various challenges involved in the project ranging from security of the documents to managing the complex workflow involved in conversion cycle of a document. There was a requirement to provide multi tenant architecture so that the iXBRL conversion service can be used by other customers of the client as well. Managing the versions of documents in conversion cycle so as to use them in reporting was also a major challenge. Another major challenge was to handle the permissions for performing role specific tasks by various users of the system.

Solution: Algoworks did an extensive analysis of requirements for developing iXBRL conversion service. The solution which Algoworks came up with was to use Liferay portal in the front end and use Alfresco to manage the documents. The use of Liferay helped to achieve multi tenancy requirement. It also allowed to develop task specific portlets which can be configured based on role to allow the users to do specific tasks. Use of Alfresco to manage the documents made it easy to manage the version of documents during conversion cycle. As Alfresco supports jbpm workflows, managing of workflow involved in conversion cycle was also taken care of. One of the major challenge in this solution was the integration of Liferay and Alfresco. The communication between Liferay and Alfresco was achieved by using webscripts (RESTful APIs), which were developed and deployed on Alfresco and invoked by using HTTP requests from Liferay.
